Why is my face swollen but I have no pain?
When you have an infection on a tooth, you may have a pimple
on the gum. The pimple is actually causing the swelling. The reason for
the lack of pain maybe due to your immune system fighting it or the pus
(infection) is slowly draining out of the pimple.
I have a cavity on a tooth that already had a filling
placed years ago, why does my dentist want to place a crown and charge
me much more than a filling?
Depending on the size of the cavity and the old filling,
placing another filling would weaken the tooth further and cause
possible fractures and you could be worse off. Most dentists are looking
out for your well-being and will recommend the best and longest lasting
treatment. If you do not trust your dentist, get a second opinion.
How do I know I'm getting quality treatment?
Comfortable, healthy dentistry and beautiful cosmetic
dentistry requires meticulous attention to detail. In our office, all
your dental care is done with magnification, to ensure you get the most
long-lasting, comfortable treatment available.
My gums used to bleed, why do I need gum surgery?
If your gums used to bleed and you never saw a dentist, you
had gingivitis (an inflammation of the gums). The fact that they no
longer bleed means the bacteria has settled below the gums and your bone
has been affected and you now have periodontitis (inflammation of the
bone). You will need a gum/bone surgery in order to reposition the gum
properly to restore the health of your gums and bone.
Why does my insurance not cover all my bills like medical insurance?
Dental insurance is not comprehensive (limited) in terms of coverage.
Most preventive treatment such as exams, cleanings and x-rays are covered at 100%.
Basic coverage such as fillings, root canals and extractions are covered at 80%.
Major treatment such as crowns, dentures and gum surgeries are covered at 50%.
Depending on your type of insurance, the above may vary.
Each dental office will have their own fee schedule and you may or may not have to pay beyond the coverage amount.
I want to get veneers but my insurance won't cover any of it?
Insurance companies are set up to help you with necessary
treatment. Optional or cosmetic treatments such as whitening, veneers
and implants are considered elective treatments and are not covered.
Why was I charged for a cancellation?
Each dental office is set up differently. When we set you up
for an appointment, we have locked up that time for you. If you cancel a
day prior or the day of you appointment, most offices do not have the
ability to call another patient to fill up the space. Most offices will
let you cancel with a 48-hour notice depending on the time you blocked
off for your treatment. Try to talk to the office manager to resolve any
issue that is considered a reasonable excuse.
What payment plans do you offer?
Needless to say, today's economy has crippled many people and
we understand patients are on a budget, so we make your dental care
affordable. No-interest payment plans up to12 months and extended
payment plans up to 5 years can help you and your family receive the
care they need.
We also accept cash, check, and major credit cards.
I had a root canal done 10 years ago and now I have pain, swelling and my dentist wants to redo the root canal. Why?
Root canals are for the most part very long lasting. From time
to time, a leakage or a lateral canal could restart the infection. Your
dentist will need to redo the root canal or refer you to an endodontist
for retreatment to remove the infection.
How are you different from other dental practices?
The relaxed atmosphere, the care, and attention we offer are
backed by 18 years of experience, continuous education training, and
meticulous dental work. We put your needs first, whether it's treating
you with care, helping you with your insurance or working within your
budget. We listen to you, answer all your questions and attend to your
concerns. We also feel you have better things to do than wait for a
doctor who was supposed to see you 40 minutes ago.
We respect your appointment time and pride ourselves to see you at the time you personally scheduled to see Dr. Farahnick.
